Cricket Australia axe four players on disciplinary ground ? Cricket News Update

Australia?s ongoing tour of India has taken a turn for the worse after the management axed four key members of the squad, namely vice-captain Shane Watson, left-hander Usman Khawaja and fast bowlers James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson, for the crucial upcoming third Test, after failing to submit their assignment.

Following their second consecutive Test defeat, Aussie coach Mickey Arthur, had instructed all members of the national team to provide three points each on how to bring about improvement in their individual and collective game. The deadline for submission was Saturday, where the players either could hand the task in person or by email.? While most players did submit their recommendations, it has been reported that Watson, Pattinson, Khawaja and Johnson were found guilty of non-compliance.?

"That's a line-in-the-sand moment. We have given these guys absolute clarity. We have given this team a huge amount of time to buy in with what we want to do for the Australian cricket team. We have given a vision to these guys that is spelt out. We've given an expectation that is spelt out and although this incident might seem very small in isolation this is a line-in-the-sand moment for us as a unit in our quest to become the best in the world. "

The move has certainly left a gaping hole in Australian cricket, especially as they attempt to salvage some pride from the remaining matches. Pattinson?s absence will be a great loss for team as he has been the pick of the bowlers so far on tour.

Watson is likely to head back home after reports emerged that his wife is expecting the birth of their first child. The vice-captain has had an uneventful tour so far, managing just 77 runs from four innings. Khawaja and Johnson had not featured in the series up till now, but were in contention for the remaining matches.

In other news, veteran wicket-keeper, Brad Haddin, has been added to the squad as cover for the injured gloveman Matthew Wade. The third Test match starts from March 14 in Mohali.

Available players for the 3rd Test: Michael Clarke (capt), David Warner, Ed Cowan, Phillip Hughes, Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Peter Siddle, Mitchell Starc, Xavier Doherty, Nathan Lyon, Brad Haddin (wk), Matthew Wade?
