5 Tips for Healthy Skin | Health & Fitness

When it comes to keeping skin happy and healthy, there?s nothing we won?t try. And healthy skin doesn?t have to be costly either. Good skin care and a healthy lifestyle can keep your skin looking healthier longer. It can also delay the natural aging process and prevent various skin problems. Here are five simple tips to keeping your skin healthy:

Protect yourself from the sun

Forget the tanning bed. The best thing we can do for our skin is to protect it from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Exposure of UV rays can lead to unwanted wrinkles, age spots and worse, cancer. That?s why it?s important to always use sunscreen. Purchasing daily creams for face and body with SPF of at least 15 is a great way to keep skin looking healthy all year round.

Don?t smoke

Smoking is directly associated with premature ageing and wrinkles. Research shows that smoking depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that help maintain healthy skin. So, if you?re a smoker, the best thing you can do for your skin is quit. Having trouble quitting? Consult a doctor for advice on how to stop smoking.

Treat your skin gently

Daily cleansing and shaving can be harmful on our skin. Using mild cleansers and shaving creams is much gentler on skin. Hot water can also remove necessary oils from your skin. Instead, try to take warm showers and gently pat skin dry. This will ensure that skin stays strong and healthy.

Eat a healthy diet

Eating healthy is great for both your body and skin. Research shows that diets rich in fruits and vegetables promote healthy, vibrant skin. Healthy foods also reduce inflammation and decrease the likelihood of breakouts. Load up on zinc, vitamin A, E and C.

Manage stress

In many ways, the mind and skin are intimately intertwined. Therefore, being stressed or nervous can make your skin breakout. In order to encourage healthy skin, try to reduce your stress level. Spend more time doing things you enjoy. And when you feel yourself getting worked up, take a second to breathe and focus on something more enjoyable.

A healthy diet and exercise are important, but your mood and mind also play a big part in healthy skin care. Good skin care and a healthy lifestyle can keep your skin healthy, radiant, and looking younger for years to come.
